Hair Styling Products
Hair is no longer just another part of our physical appearance it is a much bigger style statement than anything else. That’s why you need just the right hair cosmetics and other hair care products manufactured by renowned companies for your hair. Whether it is cute curls, spirally perms, sharp spikes, a slick gelled look, naughty flicks, a glorious thick mane cascading waves down the shoulders, or a smart ponytail – for both men and women, hair styles say a lot about one’s personality and preferences.
Not surprisingly then, hair styling has become much more of an art now - so much so that the latest trends in hair styles are as closely watched as that of haute couture.
Different hair styling products such as gels, mousses and foams, glossing or polishing drops, waxes and pomades and hairsprays have thus become a necessary part of the shopping lists of both men and women.
Types of hair styling products
Different hair styling products can be:
- Water-based: Gels, mousses and foams are types of water based hair styling products. They deliver the styling polymers in a water base. The water content makes the drying process slow down. As they dry off, these products leave a film of polymers which lend friction to the hair, making it easier to style.
Gels are applied using finger tips and palms while mousses and foams deliver the water-soluble styling ingredients with the aid of liquid propellant.
Hair gels, being thick water-based hair cosmetics, give great results in increasing hair stiffness and providing a textured look. - Wax-based: Wax based products don't actually dry. Here they differ from water based styling products. Since these never dry off, they provide the same thick, defined, wet look as with gels, but without the rigidity making the hairs fixable throughout the day. You can set and reset your hair just by running your fingers through it.
- Alcohol-based: These products use alcohol as the delivering medium for styling products. Major example of these products is hair spray.
These alcohol based products work best when you need to style your hair in a rush and don’t want to wait for the style to take shape as in case of water based products, as alcohol evaporates very quickly leaving the styling component on the hairs.
Some hair care tips
- Don’t use alcohol based mousse or hair gel if you have dry hair.
- Use gel or pomade if a short, molded hairstyle is what you want, and if you are looking for a stronger hold.
- If you want to scrunch curls or to create sleek shapes, use hair gels.
- Use the products in small amounts and in case of hair gloss products apply them only on wet hair for best results.
- Use hair gloss products if you are struggling with fly-away or frizzy hair.
- Before applying gel to the hair, put the gel on your fingers and wave them in the air for a few seconds to get the right consistency before application.
- Use only the required amount of product to avoid your hairs looking sticky and oily. Just a small amount is usually sufficient.
- High-maintenance hairstyles requiring an awful lot of hair gel should be worn only on special occasions.
- To lower the amount of gel used, use stronger gel around the tips instead of using one with normal strength throughout your hair.
- Since gel takes time to dry off, be patient and wait for some time rather than smothering your hair with excess gel.
- If you want to finishing off a style use alcohol-based products as they do not rewet the hair. Moreover, these alcohol-based products seal off the hair from the weakening effect of external moisture and humidity.
